Thomas Konrad is a co-principal investigator of the Health Professions Opportunity Grants-2 Evaluation for the Administration for Children and Families under the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Abt Principal Associate Jacob Klerman is the other co-principal investigator.
 
Konrad is a medical sociologist and professor emeritus in the Department of Health Policy and Management at the Gillings Global School of Public Health at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. In this role he led or served as a co-investigator on more than 40 studies in the field of health services research involving workforce, organization, and quality of care.
 
As a fellow at the Cecil G. Sheps Center for Health Services Research, and a Senior Scientist at the North Carolina Institute on Aging, Konrad conducted health services research studies involving workforce, organization, and quality of care.
 
In the last decade, Konrad has focused most closely on frontline health care workers employed in settings focused on low income populations, including directing the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation’s national evaluation of Jobs to Careers program. Konrad is particularly interested in working with organizations, communities, and educational institutions to develop career paths for low income persons working in the health and social care sectors.
 
Konrad holds a Ph.D. and an M.A. in Sociology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a B.A. in Sociology from the University of Santa Clara.
