Richard Small

Chief Financial Officer

Richard Small joined Abt Associates in 2008 as Chief Financial Officer. In this position, he is responsible for finance and accounting, contracts and procurement, government compliance, legal and risk management, as well as facilities and general administration. He is a member of the Management Advisory Group, and a Trustee of the company’s ESOP.

Prior to Abt Associates he served as Senior Vice President, Corporate Controller and Principal Accounting Officer for Brooks Automation Inc., a $700 million provider of factory and tool automation products and services to the global semiconductor industry. Before that, Small held the position of Corporate Controller for Global Knowledge Network, an independent education company, and Operations Controller for Helix Technology Corporation. Earlier in his career he served in a variety of finance and accounting roles over a nine year period at Bolt Beranek and Newman (BBN) where he gained significant experience in government accounting practices.

Small began his career at government contractor Lockheed Sanders, holding several positions including Supervisor of Program Administration for a $100 million business unit and Supervisor of Financial Forecasting and Program Accounting for a $75 million division. Small is a graduate of the University of Massachusetts and Babson College where he earned an M.B.A.
