Abt Associates offers staff many opportunities to develop rewarding careers here. Our projects are a major engine of staff development. Employees typically work on a few projects at a time. Each project presents unique challenges and opportunities to develop new skills, learn new perspectives, and take on new responsibilities.

We also offer non-project based professional development resources to meet the diverse needs of our staff, including:


  • More than 25 internally developed instructor-led trainings specific to day-to-day job responsibilities in areas such as people management, project management, business development, and technical expertise
  • Best-in-class external courses in leadership, communications, and high-impact presentation skills
  • A variety of eCourses available in our Learning Management System (LMS)

Role-based Development Programs

  • Project Director and Portfolio Manager Development Programs –Comprehensive training programs, aimed at developing project directors and portfolio managers across the company. Modules focus on the management of project schedules and budgets, how to effectively lead teams, and how to successfully develop strong client relationships.
  • Enhanced Career Development Program – A six-month program designed to build leadership competencies among a diverse cohort of employees through three workshops, coaching, a multi-rater assessment and action-learning projects.
  • Abt Manager Program – A three-module training program for all people managers, designed to build self-awareness as a manager, as well as develop knowledge and skills for motivating employees, building teams, providing feedback and managing conflict.

  • Korn Ferry Lominger Leadership Architect Suite, including the FYI™ For Your Improvement© book, sort cards, and VOICES 360 assessments.
  • Monthly Brown Bag events featuring topics related to business skills development such as team building, stress management, and career development.
  • Lynda.com - A leading online learning platform offering thousands of courses in business, software, technology and creative skills. Taught by industry experts, Lynda.com helps users to achieve personal and professional goals.
  • Leadership and Strategic Management Library – A collection of over 500 ebooks and 2,700 business book summaries on a variety of leadership and management topics.
  • Language learning resources are available to all Abt employees, for work or personal use.


Knowledge Sharing

Thought Leadership

  • Development and Dissemination Grants that provide funding to publish work in peer-reviewed journals
  • Technical Dissemination Grants that provide funding to present work at professional conferences
  • The Abt Associates Expertise Centers consist of cross-divisional entities that support the training and development of methodologists; facilitate the awareness and utilization of methodologists and methodological expertise across the company; and position Abt Associates as a recognized leader in key methodological areas.
