Abt Associates: Bold thinkers driving real-world impact
The Dominican Republic is taking over an Abt-led project that helped reduce the number of maternal deaths in pilot hospitals by half over three years.
The Abt Associates-led Maternal & Child Centers of Excellence project in the Dominican Republic has received the ultimate endorsement: The Dominican government is taking over the effort and using its own resources to roll it out to public and private health care facilities nationwide.
The Maternal & Child Centers of Excellence, funded by USAID, is a five-year project in partnership with the Dominican Republic Ministry of Health (MOH). It ended in February 2014. The project was created to contribute to reduce maternal and neonatal mortality by expanding access to and utilization of user-centered quality healthcare services.
