Abt Associates: Bold thinkers driving real-world impact
Abt Associates and partners have been awarded a prime IDIQ contract by USAID to advance global health priorities throughout Africa.
The Technical Assistance and Support Contract Four (TASC4) Indefinite Delivery/Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) contracting mechanism, launched July 9, is a follow on to USAID’s TASC3, through which Abt’s International Health Division implemented 13 contracts. Abt was also an implementer of contracts awarded through the predecessor TASC1 and TASC2 IDIQ’s, both of which were also dedicated to delivering effective and efficient country health services through USAID missions.
Through TASC4-Africa, the Abt-led consortium will provide USAID with cost-effective access to technical expertise and implementation support to meet the evolving health systems and services needs throughout the continent. Abt is currently registered in and/or maintains active site offices in 16 countries in Africa and, combined with consortium members, the team has a presence in 46 African nations. This allows for rapid mobilization of in-country resources for TASC4 requests.
This mechanism will be instrumental to USAID achieving the goals of Ending Preventable Child and Maternal Deaths and an AIDS-Free Generation. Additionally, it will contribute to improved equity and accessibility of essential health services to African populations that are in desperate need of health care.
“With Abt’s global presence, proven expertise in strengthening health systems and existing partnerships with governments and the private sector, we are perfectly poised to make a significant contribution to achieving these goals under this effective instrument,” said Diana R. Silimperi, MD, Vice President of Abt’s International Health Division.
Abt is partnering with 15 organizations, including small businesses and NGOs that together bring solid technical experience and extensive regional networks. The consortium’s goal is to demonstrate measureable and sustainable impact. Partners include:
Abt’s TASC4-Africa consortium also includes 14 outstanding African regional resource partners. Based in countries throughout the region, these partners bring a rich mix of service delivery, capacity-building, policy, and research skills and experience and will ensure that programming and technical assistance implemented under the IDIQ is wholly appropriate to the local context.
