Abt Associates: Bold thinkers driving real-world impact
A new collaboration has begun between family planning organizations in Jordan with the help of the Abt Associates-led, USAID-funded Strengthening Health Outcomes through the Private Sector (SHOPS) project.
On April 21, 2014, representatives from six Jordanian family planning NGOs met in Amman, and, through a signed mission statement, promised to provide convenient, timely, and accurate information about family planning as well as provide quality family planning services. The group is the first civil society alliance for family planning in Jordan.
The group, known as the Coalition of Private Associations for Family Planning, conveyed their belief that the practice of family planning will improve the health of Jordanian women and children and lead to overall improvements in the Hashemite Kingdom.
Members pledged to work closely to help promote the importance of family planning in Jordan and to encourage other groups in the private sector as well as the government to advocate more for family planning and its known health and social benefits.

The coalition’s mission statement is: “We, the national NGO Alliance for family planning in Jordan, support the access of the Jordanian population to accurate information on family planning, and benefit from a large choice of high quality family planning services. We are committed to providing this quality information and choice through our community and clinic services.”
Charter members will encourage other private groups to join the alliance to increase the voluntary practice of family planning throughout the Hashemite Kingdom.
