Tending to the Needs of Families With Young Children
Since the early 1970s, Abt Associates has maintained a national reputation in research in child care, early childhood education, and family support. Our work directly affects policy and practice in these domains.
Initially, the federal government's interest in child care fueled our involvement; policymakers viewed child-care programs as a means of better preparing low-income children for school. Later, we added state and local governments, foundations, and private business partnerships to our list of clients, and their participation reflects the increasing investment in programs that address the needs of families with young children. Our current research includes studies in Head Start, family literacy, and child health and development.
