Optimizing Research and Development Applications Among Academia, Government, and Industry
Abt Associates brings a wide range of interdisciplinary strengths to complex, cutting-edge technologies and their applications in both the public and private sectors. Increasingly, our analyses focus on strengthening the interrelationships among academia, government, private foundations, and industry. Our collaborative work in these sectors spans both domestic and international arenas.
We bring together economists, engineers, scientists, and other professionals to assess and evaluate increasingly multidimensional projects. Using state-of-the-art technologies, these projects generally represent high-risk research yielding definitive outcomes only in the long term. We use our combined areas of expertise to meet the challenges inherent in quantifying research whose diverse applications may not be realized for a decade or more.
Our mission to assess the impacts of research on economic development, small business growth, and societal improvements began in 1966. Since then, we have expanded our capabilities in math and physical science applications to include expertise in biological sciences and clinical medicine. In all, we have undertaken more than 300 science and technology projects in a vast range of disciplines. Our analyses of knowledge transfer between the public and private sectors fulfill the mandate of the Government Performance and Results Act (GPRA). Our support of government initiatives includes small business innovation research programs.
We supplement our strengths in program and policy analysis with experience in technical and strategic assistance. Our tools include:
Bibliometrics
Case studies
Model and database development
Performance measures and indicators
