November 21, 2008
Washington, D.C.
The Corporate Council on Africa (CCA) works closely with governments, multilateral groups, and business to improve the African continent's trade and investment climate, and to raise the profile of Africa in the US business community. Its 2008 U.S.-Africa Private Sector Health Forum focused on opportunities for private sector investment in health care and delivery in Africa, including medical franchising, leveraged partnerships, innovative financing mechanisms, risk pooling and health insurance, policy and regulatory incentives, human capacity development and social entrepreneurship.
The forum brought together senior U.S. and African public and private sector leadership, including representatives from leading companies already investing in African health, financial institutions interested in private sector investments in Africa, and international and regional organizations with a vested interest in the private-for-profit provision of health care in Africa.
Françoise Armand, Senior Associate, Private Sector Partnerships Advisor, at Abt Associates moderated a workshop on Pharmaceutical Distribution and Retail Sales in Africa and Ruth Berg, Project Director at Private Sector Partnership-One at Abt Associates, moderated the plenary session on Health Care Franchising.
