Abt Associates has more than 40 years of experience assessing programs that prepare young children to succeed in school. Abt studies assess the implementation and effectiveness of national and local programs, with an emphasis on efforts to improve outcomes for disadvantaged children. We look at programs designed to strengthen early development and learning, including language and literacy, early mathematics, and social-emotional and behavioral skills.

Producing scientifically-based evidence for policymakers is the hallmark of our work. Abt has been involved in national studies of Head Start and Even Start. We have also conducted numerous studies of early childhood education programs at the state and local levels.
