The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimate that in the United States 7 of 10 deaths each year are from chronic diseases. Heart disease, cancer, and strokes account for more than 50% of deaths annually. Abt works with federal agencies to conduct surveillance of chronic diseases and to assess interventions to improve patients’ health outcomes.
Examples of our work include:
- Obesity prevention studies. Abt is currently doing an evaluation of an intervention to improve access to farmer’s markets in low-income urban communities. This CDC study, which uses both survey and qualitative data collection techniques, has high visibility with presentations at several conferences.
- Cancer program evaluations. Abt recently completed a major evaluation of the oncology services at the VA which has generated several publications.
- Chronic disease surveillance and data collection.
