Abt Associates applies advanced research and analysis skills to prevention and treatment of mental health and substance use conditions, and to criminal justice policy and programs.
We employ scientific evidence, advanced technologies, and data analytics to inform program design and evaluation, strategic planning, policy and economic studies, practice guidelines, training and technical assistance, and health communications campaigns.
For instance, we have:
Estimated the prevalence of prescription narcotics for non-medical uses;
Led an evidence-based bullying prevention project to improve children's mental health;
Provided policy recommendations to lawmakers;
Supported the first-ever Surgeon General’s Report on alcohol and drug misuse and substance use disorders;
Implemented a congressionally mandated survey to veterans that could answer questions about combat-related post-traumatic stress disorder; and
Implemented innovative social marketing programs and completed the first-ever comprehensive national survey of mental health services for school children.
Our federal government clients include the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, the Department of Defense, the Department of Veterans Affairs, the Office of National Drug Control Policy, the National Institute of Justice, and the National Institute on Drug Abuse. We work with state and local governments, as well as policy, advocacy, and membership organizations.
