Primary care faces many challenges in the U.S. today. Preventive services such as vaccinations and cancer screening can save lives, but we lack the systems to deliver these services to everyone who needs them. At the same time, others receive services that have no benefit or may even cause harm.
Abt Associates works with federal agencies such as the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) and the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) as well as organizations such as the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) to bring advances in research to primary care practice and to support states to implement the health insurance coverage requirements of the Affordable Care Act.
Since 2010, Abt has supported the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF)
as it works to improve the health of all Americans by making evidence-based recommendations about clinical preventive services. USPSTF recommendations assist patients and primary care clinicians in decision making around services such as screenings, counseling services, and preventive medications. Abt provides communication and dissemination support for USPSTF recommendations and assisted in revising the USPSTF Conflict of Interest policy, among other projects.
