Abt Associates: Bold thinkers driving real-world impact
The Partnership for Transforming Health Systems Phase II (PATHS2) started off as a six-year (2008-2014) health systems strengthening project funded by UKaid from the Department for International Development. The PATHS2 project now extends to July 2016 and works with the Nigerian government in improving the financing, planning, and delivery of sustainable, replicable, pro-poor health services in Nigeria. Work is being implemented at the federal level and in the five of the 36 Nigerian states: Enugu, Jigawa, Kaduna, Kano, and Lagos.
PATHS2’s approach consists of two major strategies. The first is strengthening health systems needed to improve the delivery of health services, such as health insurance, procurement processes, information systems, human resource development, and infrastructure improvements. PATHS2 also provides direct delivery of services at the facility level while galvanizing the community to participate in improving access to quality care.
