Abt Associates: Bold thinkers driving real-world impact
As part of Abt Associates’ existing USAID-funded Strengthening Health Outcomes through the Private Sector (SHOPS) project, Abt is working to improve private sector clinic-based family planning, reproductive health, and maternal and child health services in Nigeria. The five-year associate award is expanding family planning and maternal and child health services in six states across Nigeria: Kaduna, Nasarawa, Abia, Edo, Benue, and Lagos.
SHOPS/Nigeria works with private providers, including doctors, nurses, and midwives, to increase their ability to provide high quality family planning counseling, improve the quality and range of services via training initiatives, particularly focusing on increasing knowledge of long-acting reversible contraceptives (LARC), increasing access to finance, and delivering business and management trainings. To date, the project has trained 349 providers specifically in LARC services and 425 providers in business skills.
