BETHESDA, MD— David R. Judkins, a leading expert in the design and implementation of a wide range of state-of-the-art research methods, has been named principal scientist in Abt Associates’ Social and Economic Policy Division.  In this role, Judkins will advise on the design and analysis of group randomized trials of social interventions, among other activities.

“David brings deep experience in both survey research and evaluation methodology to Abt,” said Katie Heintz, division vice president for Social and Economic Policy.  “His expertise in planning and executing the evaluation of large-scale national social interventions is extremely valuable, and we are very pleased that he has joined Abt.”
 
Before joining Abt Associates, Judkins served as a senior statistician at Westat from 1986 to 2012, with the exception of a one-year stint at RTI.   Earlier in his career, he worked for the U.S. Census Bureau.

He is the author of 29 peer-reviewed papers. Among them are co-written articles published in the American Journal of Public Health and the American Journal of Preventive Medicine.  Judkins also holds numerous honors which include positions as Fellow of the American Statistical Association, past Methodology Program Chair for the Washington Statistical Society, past Program Chair for the Joint Statistical Meetings and Associate Editor of Survey Methodology. 

Judkins received a BA in mathematics from Carleton College and an MA in mathematics with a concentration in probability from Indiana University.
