The Al-Salt Hospital in Jordan received a $2.5 million renovation of its obstetrics and neonatal departments under Health Systems Strengthening II, a five-year USAID project led by Abt Associates.
Two American officials, USAID Deputy Inspector General Lisa McClennon and Adrian Mathura of the White House Office of Management and Budget, visited Jordan recently and were very impressed by the positive impact of the Health Systems Strengthening II Project, a five-year Abt Associates-led project in Jordan.
Health Systems Strengthening II (HSS II), funded by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), continues to improve the delivery of family planning, reproductive health, and primary health care services in Jordan in part through hospital renovations. HSS II is strengthening the Jordanian Ministry of Health’s capacity by simultaneously focusing on two of the ministry’s core functions: management and service delivery.
USAID Deputy Inspector General Lisa McClennon and Adrian Mathura of the White House Office of Management and Budget viewed renovations at Al-Salt Hospital carried out under HSSII. McClennon and Mathura also met hospital management and staff and Jordan Ministry of Health representatives.
“I'm really impressed with USAID's work in Jordan – improving safe motherhood services and contributing to the reduction of maternal and neonatal mortality,” Mathura said.
Al-Salt Hospital is one of 10 hospitals that have been upgraded under HSS II, a $75 million project. The facility received $2.5 million in renovations to its obstetrics and neonatal departments. Another eight will receive renovations by the end of 2013.
“I congratulate the project and USAID teams for the good work,” McClennon said. “HSS II is a good example of the development work USAID strives to carry out.”
