The impact of Abt’s work in Bolivia is clear thanks to Anthy Giakoumelos, a communication specialist with the Integrated Food Security Project (IFS) in Bolivia.
Giakoumelos won both first and second place in Abt’s first photo contest, “Real-World Impact,” for her images depicting the impact of the IFS project’s indoor cook stoves program, its grassland renewal initiative, and its work with small-scale farmers. Giakoumelos tied with herself for second place.
Abt Executive Vice President for Global Business Jay Knott announced the winners June 8 during an annual gathering of Abt’s overseas project directors. The photos were judged on their emotional power, technical merit, and how well the image shows Abt’s impact.
Two other Abt staffers tied for third place. Sanjeev Vyas, program director and communications advisor, Market-Based Partnerships for Health, India, photographed a family planning counseling session. Tomás Manhicane Jr., policy and communications advisor, Mozambique Competitiveness and Agribusiness Program, took a colorful photo of participants in the project’s cashew nut commercialization program.
The winners (in the order shown above):
