David Ferreira joined Abt Associates in April of 2006. For the next two years he served as Abt Associates’ Chief Human Resources Officer where he led all aspects of the company’s human resource activities including organizational assessment, succession planning, leadership development, process improvement and change management. In April of 2008 he was promoted to the newly created position of Chief Administrative Officer where he is responsible for leading Human Resources, Contracts, Risk Management, Ethics and Organizational Effectiveness.
David came to Abt Associates after founding and running his own consulting firm, Back Bay Consulting, from 1998 to 2006. He worked with over 50 CEOs and COOs on a wide range of assignments aimed at aligning strategy, process and people to improve organizational performance. At CitiGroup, he was part of a global consulting team that trained Citibank's top 400 leaders in organizational and executive assessment. At Shell, he helped integrate the operations of a major joint venture. At QEP Tools, he directed the development of a business strategy and three-year growth plan. Other clients have included: Horizon Blue Cross/Blue Shield of New Jersey, Liberty Mutual, KPMG, Virtual Growth, GM-Onstar, Capital One, Peppers and Rogers Group, First Union Bank, Motionsense, First Franklin Financial, Foamex International, Annie’s Homegrown, Roura&Melamed, Homecrest Builders, Union Pacific, Sealed Air, Custom Concentrates, Honeywell, Lummus, Durr Automotive and Nantucket Offshore.
David started Back Bay Consulting after 18 years of senior management experience with three Fortune 500 companies. He was National Director of Human Resources at KPMG-Peat Marwick from 1996-98, where he developed and implemented the Firm's global Partner succession planning process. As Chief Human Resources Officer at Beneficial Management Corporation from 1993-96, he led a turnaround of the HR function that earned Beneficial the 1994 New Jersey Employer of the Year award. David was at General Electric from 1980-1993, working with four business units: Lighting, Ceramics, Plastics and Financial Services. His last position there was head of Human Resources for GE's credit card business, where he was part of the senior team that transformed the business from a regional provider to a global leader.
He earned an M.B.A. in General Management from the University of Michigan in 1980. He also holds a Masters in European Business Law from the University of Amsterdam, a J.D. from New England School of Law and a B.S. in Foreign Service from Georgetown University.
David lives in Cambridge, MA, with his wife Stephanie, their dog and four cats. He is a life-long fan of the Boston Bruins and collects original comic book art. He also serves on the President’s Counsel of the Animal Rescue League of Boston and The Board of Directors of the Bio-Sciences Career Program.
