Women Deliver 2016: Critical Junctures for Women and Girls

Women Deliver 2016, the 4th such global conference, focused on how to implement the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as they relate to girls and women. The conference had a specific focus on health – in particular, maternal, sexual, and reproductive health and rights – and the inter-connections with gender equality, education, environment, and economic empowerment.
Abt Associates, Together for Girls, AstraZeneca, and Ideas42 held an interactive side event that examined some of the important decision points throughout a woman’s life cycles – from adolescence to maturity – when a critical choice can affect the woman’s well-being over the long term. The event featured a panel presentation, structured networking, and refreshments.
Abt also participated in concurrent sessions on working with the local private sector to provide contraceptive options and making health systems work for girls and women. Also, representatives from the Abt-led PMI Africa Indoor Residual Spraying Project presented a video demonstrating how the project is giving women opportunities in roles traditionally seen as men’s work.
