Creating an Inclusive Culture Every Day
A Statement from Kathleen Flanagan, President & CEO
Here at Abt Associates, we strive every day to create an inclusive culture in which every employee knows they are valued for the varying perspectives they bring to our work.
We actively stand with Black, Indigenous, People of Color (BIPOC), LGBTQIA+ communities, and people with disabilities, our colleagues, beneficiaries, and clients, in the fight against racism, injustice, and inequality.
For Abt, this means also acknowledging historical inequality caused by institutions. We are developing our global Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Strategy to increase the visibility of people with disabilities, LGBTQIA+ and BIPOC communities within Abt and ensure the inclusivity of our policies and practices. Further, we are committed to addressing inclusion and representation in our project work through our focus on Gender Equality and Social Inclusion.
We are taking the follow actions:
Reflecting Inward. It is critical that the Abt community reflect, honestly, on our own diversity and inclusion track record and make changes as needed. This might be uncomfortable, but we must review our data, be honest with ourselves, and work to close gaps where they exist. Our colleagues deserve it, and our clients and beneficiaries expect it.
Highlighting Relevant Project Work. Abt has conducted important work on racial disparities over many years. Each of our divisions is taking steps to shine a light on the results of these studies.
Connecting with our Communities. Our Employee Networking Groups, especially Black@Abt and PRISM, which represents LGBTQIA+ colleagues and allies, are taking the lead in planning for how best to use our Community Connections resources to help.
Creating a diverse and welcoming workplace is essential to high-quality work, mission impact, and our company's success. We have work to do. It will take boldness, humility, relentlessness, and patience. Our communities deserve nothing less than our full commitment.
