ICTforAG 2018

Abt Associates is a proud co-sponsor of ICTforAg 2018. The event brings together thought leaders and experts in agriculture, technology, the international development community and private sector to share insights and make connections. This year's event will focus on solutions to real challenges faced by farmers, the private sector, and government agriculture stakeholders in three areas: market systems to improve farmer livelihoods, technological innovation, and crisis response tools and processes to increase farmer resilience.

Abt staff will participate in the following presentations:

Lunch Sessions & Vendor Demonstrations
June 14, 12:00-1:00 p.m.

Blockchain Today: Where Are We Now?
Last year, distributed ledger technology was at the peak of inflated expectations. Is it now in the trough of disillusionment as the hype wears off? What practical implementation examples can lead us to the plateau of blockchain usefulness?
Gabriel Krieshok, Abt Associates

Mid-Afternoon Breakout Sessions
June 14, 3:45-5:00 p.m.

How Can Land Tenure Technology Change Farmer Livelihoods?
Land use planning, tenure, and spatial certainty are pivotal to smallholder agricultural development. How can ICT tools like UAVs, satellite imagery, LIDAR and document management systems speed up land governance processes and make them more inclusive? When can farmers expect transparent and sustainable solutions that clearly document boundaries and ownership?
Peter Levine, Abt Associates; Jill Urban-Karr, Trimble Navigation Systems; Eric Trachtenberg, Millennium Challenge Corporation; Jawoo Koo, International Food Policy Research Institute

Unlocking Smallholder Resilience with Insurance
Technology can help inclusive insurance markets speed up post-disaster recovery for smallholder farmers by providing access to financial safety nets like life, disability, crop, and livestock insurance solutions. What is our role? The role of the private sector? What is working in digital insurance to protect farmer livelihoods?
Jeanna Holtz, Abt Associates; Jenn Cisse, USAID; Jo Anne Yeager Sallah, RTI; Paula Pagniez, Willis Towers Watson
