Event 8/17: Anatomy of Health Care Transformation: Celebrating USAID's 20-Year Legacy in Central Asia

For 20 years, Abt has been implementing USAID-funded health programs in Central Asia, helping the newly independent countries strengthen their health systems. At the onset of the work, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan faced a daunting task: coping with the realities of a post-Soviet world in which Moscow’s financial and administrative support abruptly ended. The five countries had to undergo a dramatic transformation not only in the structure of their systems, but also in the very way that they thought about health care.
This event is a celebration of the many achievements of the Abt-led programs in Central Asia and features highlights of how we worked on multiple fronts to create provider associations, educate consumers and providers and to reform financing – all of which has led to improved health outcomes for the population.
