Safe Opioid Prescribing Conversations in Primary Care and Effective Pain Interviews: Tips from the Clinical Field
Wednesday, April 24, 8:15 – 9:30 a.m. | International North
Conversations between provider/clinician and patients/family members around safe opioid prescribing can be difficult and uncomfortable, especially if they involve change in the current treatment plan, such as initiating a taper. This session will feature a behavioral health clinician and a primary care provider who have worked extensively as consultants helping providers and primary care teams develop strategies and interviewing techniques to successfully navigate these difficult, often emotional, interactions. Participants will watch the primary care provider demonstrate how to utilize the simple, three-item PEG assessment tool to guide a difficult pain interview in just seven minutes.
