Abt’s Lawrence Reichle and T.J. Pepping each contributed to chapters in Green Energy to Sustainability: Strategies for Global Industries. Their chapters characterize the chemical release and other waste management quantities of select U.S. industrial manufacturing sectors—as well pollution prevention activities and other actions promoting sustainability—in the previous decade.  Their analysis of available data, largely drawn from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Toxics Release Inventory, reveals the corresponding environmental impacts and trends in pollution prevention, as well as potential opportunities for continued progress in sustainable development within these industry sectors.

Reichle was a co-author of chapter 6, “The Environmental Impact of Pollution Prevention and Other Sustainable Development Strategies Implemented by the Automotive Manufacturing Industry,” and Pepping contributed to chapter 22, “The Environmental Impact of Pollution Prevention, Sustainable Energy Generation, and Other Sustainable Development Strategies Implemented by the Food Manufacturing Sector.”
