The Health Resources and Services Administration’s HIV/AIDS Bureau conducted a study to understand the drivers of viral suppression.  This study assessed rates of viral suppression in Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program (RWHAP) outpatient ambulatory health clinics, determined the characteristics of RWHAP clients who do not achieve and/or maintain viral suppression, and explored the barriers to achieving and/or maintaining viral suppression. The study involved medical records abstractions from 25 RWHAP-funded sites. Data were drawn from a sample of approximately 500 clients and included service utilization and medical record data (e.g., screenings, laboratory test results) over a 12-month period. The study also drew upon data from a national survey of RWHAP clinical care providers, RSR data, and interviews with both clients and providers in the 25 RWHAP-funded clinics.
