David Fein and Jill Hamadyk

Report

June 27, 2019

This report provides evidence on the results of Year Up, a year-long program for low-income young adults that offers training in targeted, in-demand sectors. Using a randomized controlled trial design, the study found Year Up increased participants’ average quarterly earnings by more than 50 percent, the largest earnings impacts recorded to date for a rigorously evaluated workforce development program. Participants also averaged four more college credits and were 18 percentage points more likely to receive a professional certification or license in 18 months compared with the control group.
