Abt conducted the Job Search Assistance Strategies Evaluation with Mathematica in three sites: Genesee and Wayne Counties in Michigan; New York City; and Sacramento County in California. The evaluation used an experimental design, with Temporary Assistance for Needy Families applicants or recipients randomly assigned to one of two programs providing employment-related services. The evaluation found no detectable effects on employment, earnings, or receipt of public benefits during the six-month follow-up period.  The report discusses implications for policymakers and program administrators.
