Obesity is a major public health problem, and early childhood is a critical time for preventing obesity. First 5 LA funded investments to reduce early childhood obesity (RECO), focusing on low-income communities in Los Angeles County. Strategies included education, media campaigns, financial incentives, gardens and parks, and policy changes. Abt assessed the impact of RECO at the county and community levels. The impact study showed RECO significantly reduced early childhood obesity in LA County as a whole and in the communities where RECO’s activities occurred.
