When it comes to supporting the health and wellbeing of children and youth, there’s been a shift in mindset from parent involvement (something we do to families) to family engagement (something we do in partnership with families). Strengthening Partnerships: A Framework for Prenatal through Young Adulthood Family Engagement in Massachusetts, for which Abt’s Rucha Londhe served as a writer and Puneet Kaur as a designer, identifies the various guiding principles of family engagement, as well as elements that translate these principles into practice. These family engagement principles and elements provide practitioners with a strong theoretical foundation for their work with families. The Framework further provides family engagement strategies for practitioners in the areas of staffing, training and professional development, resource development, and program evaluation.
