Data Analysis and Web Communications Support for the Toxics Release Inventory (TRI) National Analysis

Abt Global is responsible for the data analysis and design of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Toxics Release Inventory (TRI) National Analysis. The TRI National Analysis is EPA’s annual interpretation of the trends and stories based on the TRI data.

We conduct the research and analysis of the data, prepares visual presentations – including charts, maps, and diagrams – and well as draft the plain-language text geared toward a general public audience.

In 2014, we migrated the entire presentation into EPA’s new web content management system, which features interactive charts with a colorblind-friendly palette that we designed.

In 2015, we designed the site using a microsite to improve the navigation options. The web-based analysis provides a more accessible and interactive format, which uses key descriptions, concise facts, and informative illustrations to provide the public with a clearer understanding of the story behind the data, in both English and Spanish.

Abt also contributes to EPA’s TRI National Analysis outreach and dissemination plan, assisting with collateral materials for the press announcement and follow-up with internal and external stakeholders following release.
