EPA's Student's Guide to Global Climate Change Website
Abt Associates supported maintenance and improvements of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Student’s Guide to Global Climate Change website.
As part of this work, Abt assisted EPA’s Climate Change Division in producing a climate change video contest for middle school students. The contest challenged students to produce videos that explain why students care about climate change and how they are reducing carbon pollution or preparing for the impacts of climate change in their schools and communities.
Abt designed the contest web page, managed production of the outreach materials, ensured compliance with all Internet privacy protection laws, and assisted with the creation of an outreach plan to promote the contest among teachers, students, mom bloggers, environmental education associations, and the National Science Teachers Association.
The top three videos won prizes that were awarded around Earth Day 2014. Abt also produced a montage of the best non-winning videos. As part of this task, we also conducted a strategic communications workshop to help EPA staff find innovative ways to educate the public about climate science and the importance of EPA's role in regulating greenhouse gases.
