Spraying to Contain Malaria in Kenya

In Kenya, where malaria is the leading cause of morbidity and mortality, Abt Global is leading indoor residual spraying (IRS) in the western part of the country through the IRS 2 Program in Kenya.   IRS involves the application of an insecticide on the walls, ceilings, and other indoor resting places of mosquitoes that transmit malaria. Abt is carrying out IRS programs across Africa. Operating from January 2013 – January 2016, the IRS 2 in Kenya project is supporting the goal of reducing the burden of malaria by conducting spray operations in Homa Bay and Migori counties and by increasing local capacity to plan, implement, and monitor IRS activities in an environmentally sound manner. IRS 2 is funded by the President’s Malaria Initiative, which is led by USAID.
