Supporting the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF)

Highlights

  • The USPSTF regularly updates its methods for reviewing evidence for preventive services and the process of making recommendations transparent.
  • Abt and our partners help the USPSTF meet evolving standards for rigorously developed, evidence-based clinical guidelines.
  • A Scientific Resource Center was established to support the USPSTF and coordinate some of its governing functions and activities.
The Challenge

The Abt Scientific Resource Center (SRC), with our partner Kaiser Permanente Center for Health Research, supports the USPSTF in meeting evolving standards and expectations for rigorously developed, evidence-based clinical guidelines.

The Approach

We’ve helped the USPSTF by supporting efforts to update methods for reviewing evidence on the impact of various clinical preventive services and to make reviews and recommendations more transparent to the public and other stakeholders.

The Results

Under contract with the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ), the Abt SRC team has established and maintains the SRC to support some of the governing functions of the USPSTF and many activities associated with the USPSTF recommendation process.
