Since the passage of No Child Left Behind, states have increased student testing to hold schools accountable for student learning. In addition, many states have developed systems to make state testing data more available. Abt Global, in collaboration with Empirical Education, conducted a study and published a technical methods report to:

• Assess the technical issues researchers face when using data from state testing to assess the effects of educational interventions; and
• Produce empirical evidence on how much using state test scores can affect the results from educational impact studies, relative to using standardized tests administered by the study team.
