ending gender based violence quote march 2022

Survivor-centered GBV prevention and response means believing in, learning from and supporting GBV survivors and services as the basis for implementation. Abt’s work influences GBV policy, practice and budgeting and addresses behavioral change to makes people’s lives safer.

Reducing Risk, Ensuring Equity, Supporting Survivors

Gender-based violence (GBV) is a global epidemic that affects people from all walks of life. It disproportionately affects women and girls, one third of whom experience violence in their lifetime; people from LGBTQ+ and BIPOC communities and people with disabilities are at even greater risk. Abt therefore centers inclusive and culturally appropriate practices in our GBV prevention and response work.  We understand that GBV is based in the abuse of power and control, and that it takes varied forms, including physical, emotional, financial, psychological and sexual violence. We use multidisciplinary approaches to reduce risk and, most importantly, support survivors.
