Committed to Achieving Health Impact through Bold Thinking

Diana R. Silimperi
Diana R. Silimperi, MD International Health Division Vice President The Summer 2015 edition of of Abt Global’s International Health Division’s newsletter: Global Health: Innovation to Impact highlights Abt Global’s commitment to achieving health impact through bold thinking, and introduces in-house experts in HIV and AIDS, family planning and reproductive health, and maternal, newborn, and child health.

The articles and infographics in this issue demonstrate Abt’s commitment to helping countries make documented improvements in health outcomes through our technical assistance to governments and the private sector, including through the USAID Strengthening Health Outcomes through the Private Sector (SHOPS) project, and project work focused on improving childbirth in India and preventing malaria in Uganda.

Globally, Abt is contributing to increasing use of modern family planning methods, helping more people access HIV prevention, care and treatment programs, improving the quality of prenatal, delivery, and child health services, and protecting millions of people from malaria.

We are simultaneously working hard to better document the linkages between health systems strengthening interventions and health impact, including through a new Health Finance and Governance project report commissioned by USAID.

A new video highlights several of Abt’s in-house technical experts – Cathy Thompson (HIV and AIDS), Judith Moore (MNCH), and May Post (FP/RH) – as they discuss Abt’s experience providing technical assistance in these topic areas in a variety of countries, and suggest how successful interventions may be further scaled or institutionalized for long-term sustainability.  More broadly, Cathy, Judith, and May are helping Abt maintain the high quality of our technical work and find creative new ways to expand access to critical health care services, particularly for the poor and vulnerable.

Through better measurement and documentation of our impact, we reaffirm our long-standing commitment to improving the health and well-being of people worldwide.  I look forward to continuing to collaborate closely with you on this journey!
