How Can the U.S. Help Workers Get on Paths to Good Jobs?

Abt Global will Evaluate Innovative Workforce Development Approach Under Department of Labor Contract
The U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) recently launched a major initiative to encourage the growth of apprenticeships in the U.S. Through the American Apprenticeship Initiative (AAI), DOL awarded $175 million to 46 grantees that pledged to train and hire 34,000 workers. DOL selected Abt Global to lead a $6.6 million evaluation of this important initiative.

“Many American employers are looking for high-skilled employees to stay competitive and help fill needed jobs in health care, technology and various other fields,” said Mary Joel Holin, Abt division vice president for Social and Economic Policy. “Apprenticeship has the potential both to help employers find and train a strong workforce, and to give many employees a pathway to economic stability. As a partner of the American Apprenticeship Initiative, we look forward to determining what programs and skills are going to help sustain and grow the next generation of skilled workers.”

Abt Global is the prime contractor on the study and leads a diverse team including the Urban Institute, MEF Associates, W.E. Upjohn Institute, Capital Research Corporation, The George Washington University, and McBassi & Company.
