Measuring the Effectiveness of Health Interventions in Papua New Guinea
Abt assesses the effectiveness of our health programs in Papua New Guinea by measuring health data within program delivery regions against national health records to determine contribution. One measure might be using the proportion of pregnant women who attended at least one antenatal care visit as a proxy for service coverage to determine contribution.
On the North Fly Health Services Development and Community Mine Continuation Agreement Middle and South Fly Health Programs, Abt uses standard indicators defined in the country’s National Monitoring and Evaluation Strategic Plan to compare data within program delivery areas, controlling for pre-existing community measures such as demographic and lifestyle behaviour measures where possible. By collecting data during clinical attachments and patrols, field work, and program site visits, we can monitor program progress at activity, output and outcome level.
