Extreme weather stretches federal resources

POLITICO: Abt teamed up with Mathematica in 2014 to evaluate the effectiveness of the USDA’s National School Lunch and School Breakfast programs in more than 1,200 schools. Using a “healthy eating index,” the study showed that the programs improved nutrition and food security, and that there was “no significant association” between healthier meals and higher costs. This study is currently being discussed as members of Congress aim to reauthorize child nutrition programs in schools.
