Staff Retention Crucial After Study Confirms Lower Turnover Linked To Higher Quality of Care at Nursing Homes

Using detailed staffing and quality data from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services’ Nursing Home Care Compare tool, Abt studied staff turnover in nursing homes and found higher turnover was consistently associated with lower quality of care. This article reviews the findings we shared in the Journal of the American Geriatrics Society.

Lead author Qing Zheng, Ph.D., said, “Giving these findings, providers should consider implementing innovative strategies to retain staff and reduce turnover, which ultimately will lead to improvement in quality of care for nursing home residents.”
