Abt Commits to Business Ambition for 1.5°C Campaign, Aligning GHG Reduction Target to 1.5°C Warming and Net-Zero Emissions by 2050

Rockville, Md.  –  Abt Associates has joined the global Business Ambition for 1.5°C campaign, making the commitment to align our climate mitigation targets with the goal of keeping global warming to 1.5°C and reaching science-based net-zero emissions by 2050.

More than 900 companies have committed to setting targets in line with a 1.5°C future, which is what climate science has shown to be necessary to prevent the worst effects of climate change and meet the goals of the Paris Agreement.

“As we approach COP26, Abt Associates stands with the world’s leading companies in committing to reach to net-zero emissions by 2050,” said President and CEO Kathleen Flanagan. “Our mission is to improve the quality of life of people worldwide, and we know climate change exacerbates every social and environmental challenge we seek to address.”

By joining the Business Ambition for 1.5°C campaign, organizations will have their emissions reduction targets validated by the independent Science Based Targets Initiative, known as SBTi, and become part of the United Nations-backed Race to Zero global campaign. Abt will submit its target to SBTi later this year, with the intention to reduce its global emissions 33 percent by 2025 from the 2019 base year.

“As a company that works daily with communities experiencing the catastrophic impact of climate change, we have to do everything we can to bring more attention to this existential crisis,” stressed Flanagan. “Abt will be at COP26, discussing everything from climate equity to driving climate finance to needed scale. The time is now.”
