Abt’s Allyson Bear Promoted to SVP, USAID Portfolio

Rockville, Md.  –  Allyson Bear, Ph.D., MPH, has been promoted to head of Abt Associates’ USAID portfolio. As Senior Vice President, Bear will lead more than 1,600 staff working in 45 countries. Her portfolio includes global programs in private-sector health; infectious disease prevention, management, and control; health systems strengthening; health service delivery; and inclusive economic growth, agriculture, and market systems.

Bear previously was Abt’s regional vice president for West Africa, Middle East, and North Africa. In that role, she was responsible for technical and managerial oversight of a $400 million portfolio of health, environment, agriculture, and economic growth work across the region. She came to Abt from Corus International, where she served as vice president of international programs and managed a portfolio of health, nutrition, and livelihoods programs in 26 countries. She previously was at the U.S. Agency for International Development, where she served in various capacities, including oversight of health, nutrition, and education portfolios, co-leading the development of new strategies for child and maternal health, WASH, and nutrition, and developing regional investment strategies.

“Allyson’s track record of leading organizations that implement multi-sectoral programs across the developing world make her the right person to take the helm of our USAID portfolio,” said Abt’s President and CEO, Kathleen Flanagan. “I look forward to working with her to expand our reach and impact globally, improving the lives of those most in need.”
