Abt’s Sandra Wilson Receives Society for Prevention Research's 2020 Nan Tobler Award

Rockville, Md.  –  The Society for Prevention Research (SPR) has selected Abt’s Sandra Jo Wilson, Ph.D., to receive the 2020 Nan Tobler Award. Wilson has been selected for her “outstanding contributions to advancing the field of prevention science.” Those contributions include systematic reviews of educational programs, most notably on school-based violence prevention and high school dropout programs. Wilson also directs the Title IV-E Prevention Services Clearinghouse, an initiative of the Administration for Children and Families within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). The clearinghouse systematically reviews research on programs and services intended to provide enhanced support to children and families and prevent foster care placements.

The SPR Nan Tobler Award for Review of the Prevention Science Literature is given to an individual or a team of individuals for contributions to the summarization or articulation of the empirical evidence relevant to prevention science. Wilson’s research has been featured in leading peer-reviewed journals, including Evaluation Review, the American Journal of Preventive Medicine, Research Synthesis Methods, Educational Evaluation Policy Analysis and the Journal of the Society for Social Work Research.

“Sandra’s work in meta-analysis and evidence building—particularly around programs for youth and families—lifts the whole field,” said Mary Joel Holin, Abt division vice president, Social & Economic Policy. “She has truly earned this honor.”

The award will be presented at the virtual 28th Annual Meeting of the Society for Prevention Research.
