Rockville, Md. - John Hitchcock, former director of the Center for Evaluation & Education Policy (CEEP) and associate professor of instructional systems technology at Indiana University’s School of Education, has joined Abt Associates as a Principal Associate.
"John is one of the nation's premier evaluators of education programs and their impact," said Justin Baer, Ph.D., Abt principal associate, and education practice lead. “Faced with tight budgets and an increasingly competitive global economy, education policymakers and practitioners need to know which programs work to prepare students to be contributing adults.”
Before his CEEP appointment, Hitchcock was associate professor of education research and program evaluation at Ohio University from 2008-2013. From 1998-2008, he was lead analyst on the Sri Lanka Mental Health Promotion Program, which identified and addressed mental health needs of Sri Lankan youth. He has been a principal or co-principal investigator (PI) on multiple randomized controlled trials. He has supported the What Works Clearinghouse in a variety of roles, from PI to coding trainers, for 15 years.
Hitchcock has co-authored 37 peer-reviewed journal articles, 12 book chapters, and one book and has made more than 100 presentations at conferences from Osaka to Orlando. He is co-editor of International Journal of Multiple Research Approaches and is an editorial board member and former associate editor of School Psychology Review. According to Google Scholar, his work has been cited more than 2,450 times.
Hitchcock holds a B.A. from the University of Evansville, and an M.S., C.A.S., and Ph.D. from University at Albany, State University of New York.
