Jon Hecht Joins Abt’s Environmental Team

Rockville, Md.  –  Jon Hecht, Ph.D., has joined Abt Associates as a principal associate in Abt’s Health & Environment division. As an environmental economist with 20 years of experience, he’ll advance Abt’s cutting-edge climate change cost-benefit analysis support to clients and partners. Working with the Environmental Protection Agency and other federal and state agencies, he’ll use his expertise in estimating the monetary value of improvements in environmental quality, public health, safety, and security to help develop and guide better responses to climate change.

Before joining Abt, Dr. Hecht spent over 15 years at ICF International, where he supported the Federal Highway Administration, evaluating best practices for conducting economic analyses of resilience and adaptation measures. His work there also included a recent project for the Bureau of Land Management estimating the economic benefits to ecosystem services that resulted from efforts to conserve the habitat of Greater Sage-grouse. Additionally, he supported the U.S. Agency for International Development’s Low Emissions Asian Development program by establishing a new approach to evaluating the contributions of protected areas to sustainability goals.

“Abt has always been at the forefront of advances in economic analysis and the battle against climate change, and Jon’s expertise and creative problem solving make him a perfect addition to our team,” said Paul Anninos, vice president, Environment and Natural Resources.

Dr. Hecht holds a Ph.D. in Environmental Economics and an MEM in Resource Economics, both from Duke University, as well as a B.A. in Interdisciplinary Studies from the University of California at Berkeley.
