Christine Ohresser-Joumard is an international development specialist with more than 25 years of experience working for USAID, multilateral development organizations and private-sector firms in Africa.
Ohresser-Joumard was director of the West Africa Trade and Investment Hub, a $48-million Abt-led project that grew regional and global exchanges in staple commodities as well as export products, such as apparel.
She was Abt’s chief of party for USAID’s $28-million AgriFUTURO Project in Mozambique from 2014 to early 2015. Under her leadership, the project launched a scaling-up plan to increase use of affordable soybean inoculant technology, expanded and strengthened agribusiness development services, and helped small and medium traders access finance through support of a mechanism that injected liquidity into the trading network.
Between 2012 and 2013, Ohresser-Joumard was deputy chief of party for Abt’s Agribusiness and Trade Promotion projects in West Africa. In that role, she coordinated the Food Across Borders Conference, a regional event that gathered more than 200 participants with a stake in reducing food insecurity through intra-regional trade in staple commodities across West Africa.
Prior to joining Abt, she held successive positions with USAID/Mozambique, including supervisory private enterprise officer. She was responsible for managing an annual budget of up to $42 million in development assistance and Food for Peace resources, which funded food security, agricultural research, rural enterprise development and infrastructure projects. Prior to joining USAID, she was an advisor to the president of Mozambique’s Institute for Rural Development (INDER), where she provided overall support to the process of institutional strengthening, including assistance in drafting a rural development strategy that was adopted by the Council of Ministers in March 1998.
