Cristine Betters is Abt’s regional managing director for international health for West Africa, Middle East, Asia/Near East, and Latin American and the Caribbean. She has more than two decades of international public health and management experience from working in approximately 30 countries on four continents.
Prior to joining Abt, Betters was the Malaria Consortium’s director of Africa programs for four years, based in Kampala, Uganda. In that role she substantially increased revenue and profitability in the region, won a number of large-scale innovative grants and contracts, and expanded the organization’s geographic footprint.
Prior to that, Betters was the International Rescue Committee’s country director for Uganda, after holding the same position for Burundi and Rwanda. In these roles, she provided leadership and strategic direction, with a particular focus on new business development, operations restructuring, and revision of human resource compensation and performance management systems.
