Peter Levine, director of the Agriculture and Food Security Practice at Abt Associates, is a senior economic growth, project management and private-sector development specialist with more than 20 years of experience in the design, oversight, and implementation of complex international technical assistance programs.
Levine has served as project director for a series of programs under the Millennium Challenge Corporation Compact with Indonesia’s Green Prosperity Project. He managed a team of experts implementing analytical efforts across land use planning, district selection, strategic environmental assessments, multistakeholder fora and green knowledge across multiple Indonesian districts.
He previously directed the Abt-led, USAID-funded Bolivia Integrated Food Security (IFS) Project, leading a multidisciplinary team as it developed solutions to complex challenges at the community level and overseeing a mix of programming designed to impact local economic development in the country’s decentralized political and budgetary environment.
Levine has worked extensively in Latin America, Asia, and Central and Eastern Europe while also playing a key role in successful proposal development in Africa, including Abt’s South Sudan FARM project. He is well-versed in private sector development, economic growth and trade, and international best business practices, with a strong track record for facilitating stakeholder relationships to ensure tangible and practical results in emerging markets around the world.
Prior to joining Abt, Levine was an independent senior advisor to international consulting firms and policy advisory organizations on new business development, technical assistance design and communications issues in emerging markets.
Before that, he spent 15 years at Financial Markets International, an international law and economics consulting firm, ascending to the role of vice president and serving as chief of party in Ukraine. He provided technical and management leadership for company activities and international projects. He also served as senior liaison to USAID, corporate clients and leading NGOs on new business development, partnership initiatives and economic development projects.
