Principal Associate, International Development

Virginia Ellen Pierce is an international development professional with more than 30 years of experience managing multisectoral programs, with a special focus on health and women. She provides management and technical oversight for Abt’s bilateral health projects in Ethiopia and Zambia.
 
Pierce has advanced skills in written and interpersonal communication, proposal writing and partnerships. She also has expertise in problem analysis, strategy and program design, and management and evaluation.
 
Pierce has held management and technical positions in a range of health and development programs. She is a qualified organizational manager, supervisor and trainer of program and administrative staff. She excels in team building.
 
Prior to joining Abt, Pierce spent 20 years with CARE USA, managing field programs and providing technical support for reproductive health programming. She has worked in Armenia, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Burma, Cambodia, China, Ethiopia, Georgia, Haiti, India, Mali, Malawi, Nepal, Sudan, Tajikistan and Zambia.
